The Tokyo Head Office of Microsoft Japan has announced that the Xbox 360 will be arriving in Japan on Thursday October 11th, 2007. The Elite is already released in both the United States and Canada, with the release in Europe to be sometime this year (though an exact date has not yet been decided.) while elsewhere in countries like Australia even less is known about when the black 360 will hit shelves.
The package will consist of the standard Elite console with a black wireless controller, an HDMI AV cable and the black headset. A press release from the Microsoft Japan website states that the 360 Elite will set Japanese gamers back 4750 Yen (20 GBP), less than a sixth of the current price of its already released North American counterpart. This news follows recent sales reports that the 360 is selling poorly in Japan, with the Wii selling nearly twenty times the number of units and PS3 selling three times the units that 360 has managed to get off the shelves.
